Description
What is electric honey extractor?
An electric honey extractor is a machine used in beekeeping to extract honey from honeycombs. It typically consists of a drum or a cylindrical basket where place the frames containing honey-filled combs. Here’s how it generally works:
- **Uncapping**: Beekeepers first remove the frames filled with capped honey from the beehive. Uncapping in beekeeping refers to the process of removing the wax capping that seal the cells of honeycombs. Removed these capping before extract honey from the frames
- **Loading Frames**: . Loading the uncapped frames inside the extractor.
- **Centrifugal Force**: Once the frames are loaded, the extractor spins rapidly using an electric motor. The centrifugal force generated by the spinning causes the honey to be forced out of the cells in the frames.
- **Collection**: As the honey is released, it collects at the bottom of the extractor’s drum or basket.
- **Draining**: There is typically a tap or valve at the bottom of the extractor where the honey collects. Beekeepers can then drain the honey into a filter or directly into containers for further processing.
- **Repeating**: The process is repeated for each frame until all the honey from the frames has been extracted.
Electric honey extractors are favoured for their efficiency and speed compared to manual extractors, which require physical effort to spin. They come in various sizes and capacities to accommodate different scales of beekeeping operations, from small hobbyists to large commercial apiaries.
