Description
Aluen CAP® Slow Release Oxalic Acid Strips for Varroa Control
A New Organic Tool for Varroa Management
Aluen CAP® is a slow-release oxalic acid strip designed to help control Varroa destructor mites in honey bee colonies. The strips are placed directly in the brood nest, where bees naturally contact the treatment and distribute oxalic acid throughout the colony over an extended period.
Unlike short-duration oxalic acid treatments, Aluen CAP® remains active in the hive for 42 days, providing sustained exposure to phoretic mites as they emerge from brood cycles.
Key Features
✔ Slow-release oxalic acid technology
✔ Active treatment period of 42 days
✔ Suitable for colonies with brood present
✔ No synthetic miticides
✔ No detectable residue concerns in honey or wax when used as directed
✔ Easy to apply – no vaporiser required
✔ Ideal for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs
✔ APVMA Emergency Permit PER95790 approved for use in Australia
How Aluen CAP Works
Each strip contains oxalic acid embedded within a durable cellulose matrix. Bees walk over the strips and distribute the active ingredient throughout the colony.
The continuous release of oxalic acid over six weeks helps reduce mite populations by targeting mites on adult bees as they move through the colony. This extended exposure allows treatment to remain effective across multiple brood cycles.
Application Rates
8–10 Frame Colonies
- Use 4 strips per hive
- Place strips over frames 2, 4, 6 and 8
5–6 Frame Nucleus Colonies
- Use 2 strips per hive
- Place strips over frames 2 and 4
Leave strips in place for 42 days, then remove and dispose of them according to permit requirements.
