Description
The bee development model (Bee lifecycle model) refers to the various stages of growth and maturation that bees undergo during their life cycle. Generally, this model applies to social bees like honeybees and bumblebees and consists of four primary stages:
Egg: The queen lays eggs in individual cells of the hive. These eggs are tiny and take about three days to hatch.
Larva: After hatching, the larvae are fed by worker bees. They undergo several molts, growing rapidly during this stage, which lasts about 5-6 days for honeybees.
Pupa: Once the larvae reach a certain size, they enter the pupal stage, where they undergo metamorphosis. In this sealed cell, they develop into adult bees over about 10-14 days.
Adult: After emerging from the pupal stage, adult bees will take on specific roles within the hive, such as foraging, nursing, or guarding, depending on their age and the needs of the colony.
This developmental model is crucial for understanding the biology and ecology of bees, their roles in the hive, and their contributions to pollination and biodiversity.
