How to Use Queen Cell Cups

Queen cell cups are mainly used for artificial queen rearing. Here are the standard steps:

1. Prepare Queen Cell Cups and Equipment

✅ Choose plastic queen cups or wax queen cups (can be made using molds).
✅ Prepare a queen rearing frame, which can hold 10-20 queen cups per frame.
✅ Select a queenless colony or strong colony to ensure good acceptance and care.

2. Select Suitable Larvae (Grafting Larvae)

✅ Choose 1-day-old worker larvae from a healthy colony (the younger, the better).
✅ Use a grafting tool or a soft brush to carefully transfer the larva into the queen cup, ensuring it is placed in a small amount of royal jelly.

3. Install the Queen Rearing Frame in the Colony

✅ Install the queen rearing frame in a strong colony, usually in the center of the brood area, where the temperature and care are optimal.
✅ Ensure a stable colony environment, providing ample food (pollen and honey) to encourage worker bees to feed the larvae.

4. Check the Queen Cells and Manage Queen Rearing

✅ Check the queen cups after 3-5 days to see if they are capped (capping indicates the larvae are accepted and being raised as queens).
✅ By day 10-12, the queens will be close to emergence (if transferring, do so before they emerge).
